Medical and pharmaceutical products that require prior approval

The Syrian Ministry of Health has provided the General Authority for Ports and Customs with a list of medical and pharmaceutical products that require prior approval for entry into the country. The list includes medicines, infant formula and baby food, cosmetic and health products with medical claims, as well as surgical equipment and supplies, and the raw materials used in their manufacture.

The decision reads as follows:

Greetings:

In response to your letter No. 336 dated April 13, 2026, requesting a list of pharmaceutical products requiring prior approval from the Ministry of Health for entry into the Syrian Arab Republic, we are providing you with the following products that require our approval:

  • Human medicines.
  • Infant formula for children under one year of age.
  • Dental anesthetics.
  • Medicines for personal use.
  • Dietary/herbal supplements, energy drinks, sports nutrition products, baby food for children under one year of age, and foods with medicinal uses.
  • Cosmetic products for hair, skin, and nail care that make medical claims.
  • Herbal health products.
  • Health products with medical claims, in addition to skin disinfectants.
  • Raw materials used in the manufacture of the aforementioned products.
  • Medical devices and accessories.
  • Surgical instruments, supplies, and sutures.
  • Laboratory reagents and medical consumables.
  • Supplies for (cardiovascular catheterization and surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, dialysis, dentistry, sterilization).
  • Medical supplies (intended for implantation, fertility, and contraception).
